Welcome to Chaplin Estates
Nestled between Forest Hill and Davisville Village, Chaplin Estates is a prominent community that is primarily home to a friendly and stunning residential borough. The neighbourhood and those who live in it benefit from the well-groomed tree-lined streets and elegant houses many of which were built in the early 20th century. However, this community has more than their welcoming neighborhood atmosphere to celebrate – the retail filled intersection of Yonge & Eglinton lies in the North East corner of the Chaplin Estates neighbourhood. This intersection is home to many prominent shops, businesses and services, one notably being the Eglinton TTC Subway Station.
Chaplin Estates as it is known today came into fruition in 1913 when William John Chaplin and his son James D. Chaplin applied for a plan of subdivision, thus its name. The Chaplin family had been prominent residents of the area since 1860 and had a vision of their neighbourhood as an affluent housing district – a sentiment that still holds true today. When the Chaplin Realty Company sold individual plots of land, they ensured the neighbourhood would maintain its luxurious appearance by implementing certain zoning bylaws; for example, they did not allow semi-detached houses to be built. Today it remains an upscale area of Toronto, known for its pleasant atmosphere and the incredible convenience provided by its proximity to Yonge Street.
