Features

Nestled within one of the City’s most prestigious neighborhoods, Chestnut Hills is an exclusive enclave consisting of mature tree-lined streets steps from stunning parks, walking trails, and area amenities. It affords ideal proximity to premier local schools, playgrounds, private clubs, gourmet shops, and fine dining, just minutes from public transit. Only 30 minutes from the City’s downtown core and 20 minutes from the international airport, this fantastic property presents the ideal mix of urban and suburban living.

Humber Valley’s history is tied closely to that of its neighboring communities. The area was largely divided into farm lots by 1805, most of which were purchased by Etobicoke's early great landowners who lived elsewhere in the township, leaving this part of the Humber Valley largely undeveloped until the early 1900s. Robert Home Smith built his home 'Edenbridge' overlooking the Humber Valley, at the turn of the century, after purchasing much of the surrounding land. To the west of Royal York another early resident, Frederick James, in 1908 developed his 'Red Gables' estate as a large landscaped park which remains today. While Robert Home Smith developed land in The Kingsway neighborhood to the south, this new area was re-surveyed and subdivided for development by Smith's company as the 'Humber Valley Surveys' with construction starting in the mid-1930s and continuing after Smith's death in 1935, until Etobicoke’s rapid expansion in the 1960s. This more than the thirty-year span of development produced many different styles of home as fashions changed. The designs include Georgian, Colonial, Tudor, Cape Cod, ranch bungalows, split-level, contemporary and modernist homes. Humber Valley was planned as a wealthy suburb like 'The Kingsway' to the south and has remained so to this day with significant new construction occurring in recent years.

Rapid growth in Humber Valley and the higher density Kingsway area, necessitated the establishment of the Humber Valley Village public school, built-in 1951, soon followed by the Humbertown Shopping Centre at the heart of 'Humber Valley Village'. The defining element of this community would be the parks system. Not only are there five golf courses within one kilometer of every side of the borders, but huge networks of green space surround the Humber River. More than a century after its initial development, Humber Valley - Chestnut Hills remains one of the most sought after and desirable locations in the City.
